Upcoming Workshops for Adults May – July 2017

New dates are announced for Paper Making, Batik, Felting and Paper Art workshops! Courses are held at GRENNAN MILL CRAFT SCHOOL in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny and limited places are available for each workshop – please read on for details:

6 May (Saturday): PAPER MAKING DAY– Beginners

10am – 1pm HAND PAPER MAKING – Introduction to traditional and contemporary techniques of making beautiful handmade papers from pure plant fibres of cotton and mulberry bush and a range of recycled materials.

Participants will learn about basic processes, pulp making, suitable materials and the use of plant fibre linters.

Inclusions and decorative methods are also covered.

2.30 – 5.30pm SILK FIBRE PAPERMAKING  A truly fascinating, contemporary technique for making `fabric-like`, light weight, colourful silk papers using a selection of raw silk fibres and fabric dyes. Easy to continue and set up at home, this process is ideal to create unique interior decorations and striking silk papers for artworks, embroidery, collages…etc.

7 May (Sunday)

10.30am – 1.30pm HAND PAPER MAKING – FOLLOW-ON / ADVANCED Level Course

Participants with previous experience

This course is suitable for those with experience and/or their own artistic practice in areas of hand paper making and fibre arts.  The workshop focuses on silk fibre paper making processes, three dimensional forms and Batik/ Wax techniques on Handmade Papers.

2.30 – 5.30pm BATIK – Beginners

Introducing traditional and contemporary processes of Batik – an ancient fabric dyeing technique where hot wax is used as a resist on cloth. The workshop covers different wax applications (brush, Tjanting, stamp) and participants will work on small pieces applying two layers of wax and two colours.

9 July (Sunday)

10.30am – 1.30pm HAND PAPER MAKING – FOLLOW-ON Course – Participants with some previous experience
This workshop offers an introduction to three dimensional/sculptural processes using paper making methods and materials – with an experimental approach. Ideal for those who previously participated in short paper making workshops – this course takes basics techniques further and offers guidance and advice.

2.30 – 5.30pm FELT MAKING – Beginners

Wet felting using dyed and undyed Merino wool and silk fibres: this workshop covers basic techniques of felt making. Participants will design create a small felted picture and a three dimensional piece.

OR: € 70 for any two workshops (or € 35 per workshop for multiple bookings)

BOOKINGS are confirmed with € 30 deposit paid in advance. * Courses are run for small groups only so please call to book early.

* DEPOSITs are returned if the Studio has to cancel a workshop. Cancellations from participants will be accepted up to 2 weeks before the course date and deposits will be returned. In other cases participants may be offered rescheduled dates/options.
